Each fellowship includes 12 months of research, which may be translational or clinically oriented, interspersed with 24 or 12 months of clinical rotations in Urogynecology, Urology, Colorectal Surgery and Geriatrics. The Fellowship faculty includes four Urogynecologists, two Urologists, three Geriatric Specialists, Colorectal Surgeons, and a Radiologist. Fellows are trained in the evaluation and treatment of women with all pelvic floor disorders. Both surgical and non-surgical approaches to treatment are emphasized. Surgery includes vaginal, abdominal, laparoscopic and robotic approaches. Fellows are also prepared for academic careers via full participation in research projects, grant development, presentations at national meetings, and journal publications. Fellows who plan academic careers and are completing our program or other accredited programs has the opportunity of applying for a NICHD sponsored Women’s Reproductive Health Research (WRHR) Career Scholar Award which is available at UAB. Scholars will be sponsored for up to five years of mentored research in basic, translational, or clinical aspects of women’s health, combined with clinical work.
